freedom in nature

Tom Sawyer had it right.

So much of what our children need to learn can be achieved outside running barefoot and free in nature. This past year we have taken every single opportunity we could to get outside and play. I can’t remember a winter in my life that I had so much fun hiking and sledding, in a way I feel as though I have found a part of myself that has been lost. It is a miracle to behold how the outdoors inspires a child’s mind and offers memorable challenges and risks.

It amazes me the benefits of outdoor play to our children’s mental, physical and emotional health.
